|M.D. PROF. HAIM MATZKIN|
Prof. Matzkin, born in 1953, Tel-Aviv, graduated from the faculty of Medicine in "HADASSA" Jerusalem in 1977. Military service between the years 1979-1985 - served among other as head of the contagious disease section (Epidemiology) in the I.D.F. Completed full residency training at the urology department of the Tel-Aviv Medical center in 1990.
Between 1990-1992 spent two years in the USA in Memphis and Miami where he completed studies in oncological urology - the treatment of urinary cancer diseases. In 1994, was awarded an associate professor degree from the Tel-Aviv University and as of 1996 heads the department of Urology at the Tel-Aviv medical center. Prof. Matzkin has a long standing special interest in prostate cancer treatment throughout its different stages, and he is experienced in diagnosing the disease, the surgical treatment in localized disease, the hormonal treatments and other treatments in the progressive-widespread disease. Amongst other Prof. Matzkin invests many years in clinical and basic research of prostate cancer, as one can note from the partial scientific publication list as followed. Prof. Matzkin is a guest invited lecturer, an advanced clinical instructor and has held international conventions regarding prostate cancer.
Recently, Prof. Matzkin is involved in performing trans-perineal prostate biopsies, based on Brachytherapy techniques and equipement.
|In 1997 Prof. Matzkin began studying the freezing system used for treating prostate cancer as well as Brachytherapy systems. In 1998 Prof. Matzkin, began, joined by a staff of urologists and oncologists, the prostate cancer Brachytherapy treatments in Israel. So far, over 1300 successful Brachytherapy iodine based treatments where conducted in Israel. Prof. Matzkin has an international recognition of his abilities in the Brachytherapy field and serves in the last years as a senior teacher and proctor in European countries on behalf of international Brachytherapy companies. In this framework abroad he has also acquired experience in the use of another radioactive element - the palladium, that enables him to select the best individual option for a given patient. For the first time in Israel - at the PROSCARE medical center - at the new Assuta medical center, treatment with either of both elements will be enabled. |

The Brachytherapy staff
| Joining Prof. Matzkin are other medical factors in purpose of starting center: In addition to urologists, An experienced nurse-coordinator, whose role is to guide patients and their families, keep a tight and continuous touch with the patients , before, during and after the treatment. A specialized oncologist that assists the urology staff in choosing the treatment, planing the inner-circle-radiation, and assists in cases where a combination of external and internal radiation (Brachytherapy) is essential. A radiation physicist that holds a major role in radiation planing in this sort of treatment and in the immediate after treatment survey with the help of a computerized simulation - CT. |
The medical center has taken upon itself the conduction of the various treatments while keeping the highest professional standards. The skills and professionalism of each factor joining the treatment had been checked and found in highest quality. The center offers a treatment approach considering all the various treatment options possible (we have the tools to enable every possible treatment to prostate cancer) and the staff that combines both a urologist and an oncologist. Teamwork is of utmost importance while upholding medical standards as customary in academic medicine and keeping a strict quality control and feedback mechanism.
